Vacation comments

We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge hotel. We chose the Savannah Rooms, which afforded us a view over the animals in the parks outside our room. We were provided with an "eye-spy" list of the animals so we could check off what we saw. Around the hotel, there were a few outlook spots so that even if you couldn't overlook the Savannah from your room, you could check them out.
Because we stayed within the WDW compound, it also meant that we could make use of the WDW transportation system, which enabled us to get from park to park without needing to pay for a taxi or hire a car. The buses arrived every 20 minutes so we didn't have to wait to long either. Also (and important consideration for those on a budget) the transport is FREE!
I think it's worth noting that the Animal Kingdom Lodge isn't a cheap place to stay - but to be honest, if you're on a tight budget I think you'll find the marketing arm of Disney a tough one to fend off - T-shirts, plush toys, other associated stuff, is a bit on the high end scale for prices, but to be fair, my Tower of Terror T-shirt is now 11-years old and is still looking pretty cool!
We bought a 7-day pass, and this allowed us to hop from park to park; this was a great idea as we found that we were able to leave off a more popular ride so we could turn up early the next day and get the ride we wanted (this is in addition to the Fastpass system - you can pick up a ticket and not spend the ages queuing for the ride. BUT - it will mean that you will bypass much of the pre-story theming and this is a really neat prequel to the ride itself.For me though, the proof of any pudding is in the eating. I had a great time within the Disney world - the time sped by and I was able to be brought into the fairytale, story telling world of Walt Disney - a master showman and story teller.
